Air Fryer Cod with a Crispy Parmesan-Panko Crust
Breaded air fryer cod cooks at 200°C / 400°F for 10–12 minutes. Plain seasoned fillets take 8–10 minutes at the same temperature. The fish is ready at 63°C / 145°F, when it flakes easily with a fork.
The coating here is breadcrumbs and Parmesan, pressed on firmly and sprayed with a little oil. It tastes close to fish and chips with a fraction of the oil.
For an oilier, richer fish, cook Air Fryer Salmon instead.

How to Make Air Fryer Cod
1. Dry and Season the Cod
Pat the cod fillets dry and season with salt, pepper, and lemon zest.
2. Set Up the Breading
Place flour in one bowl, beaten egg in the second, and mix panko, Parmesan, garlic powder, paprika, and parsley in the third.
3. Coat the Fish
Dip each fillet in flour, then egg, then press it firmly into the Parmesan crumb mixture.
4. Spray with Oil
Lightly spray the basket and both sides of the coated cod with oil.
5. Air Fry the Cod
Cook at 200°C / 400°F for 10–12 minutes, carefully flipping halfway, until golden and crisp.
6. Check Doneness
The air fryer cod is ready when it flakes easily and reaches 63°C / 145°F in the center.
7. Serve
Serve immediately with lemon wedges and quick tartar sauce.
- Cod should reach 63°C / 145°F and flake easily with a fork.
- Press the crumbs on firmly so the coating doesn’t blow off in the air fryer.
- Flip gently with a thin spatula; flaky fish can break apart.
- Thin fillets cook faster, so check them at 8 minutes.

How to Keep the Breading On
Breading that falls off or blows around is the usual complaint with fish in an air fryer. Work through these in order:
- Dry the fillets with paper towels so the first layer has something to grip.
- Press, don’t sprinkle. Push the crumbs onto the fish with your palm.
- Spray both sides lightly with oil so the crumbs brown instead of staying pale and dusty.
- Flip once, gently, with a thin spatula.

- Fish tacos: Cut the cod into strips and serve in tortillas with slaw.
- Herb crusted cod: Add fresh dill and parsley to the panko.
Storing and Reheating
Store leftover air fryer cod in the fridge for up to 2 days.
